ABSTRACT
Zhu Xi (1130-1200) was one of the Confucian masters in the Southern Song Dynasty,
an educator, a philosopher, and the founder of New Confucianism. He inherited and
carried forward Chinese Confucianism, in addition developed and strengthened
academic education system. He was honored as the "master" and "reviver" of
Confucianism. Zhu Xi’s educational thought dominated the orthodox educational
thought from the Southern Song Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty nearly a
thousand years ago shortly after Zhu Xi’s death. “Four Books” and other works edited
and annotated by Zhu Xi almost controlled the main curriculum content of official and
private education for nearly a thousand years. As well as the main content of the
imperial examination, the school regulations and teaching methods he established had
a profound impact on later generations of China and East Asia such as Japan, Korea,
and Vietnam. This article will explain the educational concepts, educational purposes,
educational models, educational methods, moral education, children's education,
teacher-student relationship, etc. in Zhu Xi's educational thought
